dyreson ancient civil timelineAncient civilization timeline Name:______________
We are going to make an online interactive timeline at http://www.readwritethink.org/materials/timeline/
First, you will have to find dates for these events from ancient civilizations. Then you will have to put them in order by date. Remember, these dates are all from BEFORE CHRIST (B.C.) so start with the highest number(date) and go to the lowest. You will use World Book or Infoplease Almanac to find dates. If an actual year isn’t given, read carefully to see if the article says something like “3000 years ago”. If it says that, remember that 3000 years ago is about 1000 B.C. (because it is 2007 A. D. now!!) Enter each date and a brief title at the site. When it is finished, print it.
_______King Tut died _______ Great pyramid built ________bronze age began and bronze tools were made ________first writing system invented ________Hammurabi starts rule ________City-states formed in Sumer ________First Greek Olympics ________City of Rome started/founded ________Start of Roman empire/first Roman emperor ________Trojan War ________Alexander the Great becomes king ________Phoenician cities gain independence ________Roman republic (this isn't the same as the empire!) started ________First Chinese dynasty starts ________Babylon destroyed by Persian invaders ________China unified by Qin Shi Huangdi
Make sure you have your dates in order BEFORE you enter them in the timeline. Remember, oldest date first! When you open the timeline, you will need to enter a title, and your name (“by”…). For "Unit of measure", choose date and then go to Next entry. Enter the date, title and description for the first event. the description should be 1-2 short complete sentneces. Then click on "Next entry". ***There is no way to save so you must enter all dates in one period*** If you enter one event out of order, there is a way to fix it, but you could easily get goofed up. So, enter them in order. When you have all dates entered, print the timeline in horizontal (across) scheme .
Places to look for information: World Book online (in Favorites and on the desktop) Info Please Almanac www.infoplease.com/almanacs.html Britannica Middle School encyclopedia (in Badgerlink)
Evaluation: 50 point total Accuracy of dates 30 pts. Spelling 5 pts. Completeness of information 10 pts. Staying on task 5 pts.
